Wanted : for free :-) Broken Acorn Electron(s)

Hi folks, Just a request for you all to bear in mind for the future, either as your own Electron fails or you come across one on your travels . . . . . I wouldn't normally consider breaking up a vintage home computer, even a toy :-) but . . . As we know, a common problem with the MTX is bad or stick...

Where? South Cheshire. When? 17/18 October

Hi guys, There hasn't been any updates to the Memofest 2015 thread since October last year, so, let's see if we can kick start it! Paul is hosting the 2015 event at his home in South Cheshire, but there are few other details available at the moment. To help Paul plan, I suggest that we start to put ...

Re: New member saying hello

Ooops - the "aha moment" is all mine :-) I have 4116 and 4164 for sale, I confused which ones you had bought. The 4116 are good for the VRAM The 4164 are what's needed for the main RAM regards Dave p.s., if you wanted to save us both the rip off ebay fees, and you pay the Paypal fees, I co...

Re: New member saying hello

Hi Jon, OK - fair enough. Have I confused you with the Jonathan Riglar that just bought some RAM from me off ebay? The ones I have on there are tried & tested with MTX repairs, i.e., they are the ones that Martin and I used. As you say, it's a bit off topic, I will move the thread I think regard...

Re: New member saying hello

Hi Jon, OK, as I said, the symptoms are typical of a RAM fault, but it could be pretty much anything. If you have spares, it's easy to swap the Z80 and CTC, everything else is socketed. No guarantee that it would fix it, but changing the RAM is the best bet. You have a couple of options, depending o...

Re: New member saying hello

Hi Jon, the constant tone (with a black screen) is a common symptom of a main RAM problem. (Although, other "fatal" problems could cause this too.) I take it that you have changed the RAM? This is the problem that Andy Key and I saw when we tried to upgrade MTX500s to MTX512s by removing t...

Re: New member saying hello

Hi Jon, OK - thanks. Which item was it ? It should be on this page . . . http://www.primrosebank.net/computers/mtx/mtxsales.htm If the item was really "not as described", have you raised it with the seller and/or ebay? A good check on whether the CPU is running, even if the video is not wo...
