Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

Or put the right buffers, signal handling and delays into place ? I actually have both designs on some of my RC2014 systems. The 82C55 one is much more reliable but a chunk slower but both of them beat doing SD by bitbanging an SD card using a Z80PIO. To be fair though I'm doing SPI mode not 4bit m...

Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

Hi Martin,

yes, I wonder if we should stick with the 16 bit(82C55) interface for CFX-III (if it over gets done)?

Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

Martin, for info, there some interesting stuff here, including some comments by the Bill Shen that Alan mentions, here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rc2014-z80/tm-fXksGgXY Interestingly, the cheap STEC cards that I have shipped with most CFX's have been found to be good in his tests. I mig...

Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

Minor observation with CFX-I (40 column mode), pressing <RET> repeatedly with a blank command line gives an occasional bit of corruption on the upper lines of the display (that contain just #) as they scroll. It's a sort of "ghost" effect, it just flashes a few garbage characters over 3-4 lines that...

Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

Thanks for the info.

Interestingly, my "bad" card seems to work OK with CFX-I.

CFX-I uses an 82C55 to communicate with the CF card in 16 bit mode. CFX-II doesn't use the 82C55 and uses 8 bit mode.

Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

As an aside . . . I am getting a bit closer now I've discovered the CFII doesn't like the CF card I was experimenting with (looks like CFII doesn't wait properly at boot but need to trace that further to see). Alan Hi Alan, obviously, FUZIX is your focus, but now that I have seen another card not wo...

Re: Bootstrap and boot blocks

Just to confirm, Alan, this was with the second image that you posted, the first image does not boot at all here

The system seems to be working fine - if I knew anything about Unix, I might be more help :)
