Re: Resurrecting an MTX500.
Could it be a CPU problem? The CPU is the latest generation of Z80 and isn't designated "A" or "B"

Re: Resurrecting an MTX500.
STAR.COM works fine.
SPECTRON.{BAS,MTX,RUN} don't. They mostly get to the screen asking for which game mode to play and don't respond to the key press. They're also reluctant to acknowledge the key press at the "Press any key" stage.

Re: Hello
Fair enough. Still, from my experience, de-soldering chips can be problematic as the ancient oxidised solder can stick the pins to the holes and no matter how many times you wick the solder and re-apply the holes just don't empty. Many a time I found that I had to physically break the join from the ...

Re: Hello
The ITT VRAM chips are dog slow given their model number, far slower than the 200ns Oki RAM chips.

Re: Resurrecting an MTX500.
Thanks... I'll do some more testing myself.
I could try replacing all the memory chips as I have a spare set, though as yet they are untested.

Re: Hello
Indeed, I'd never use a solder sucker ever again... Clipping the legs of the chips and then removing them one by one (using angled tweezers) is pretty safe, as long as you are not rough and pull hard. Then just a good, pre-fluxed desoldering braid to remove the solder from the holes. I swear by &quo...

Re: Resurrecting an MTX500.
I'm loading them via the CFX from CF card. It's possible that the loading system in the CFX is corrupting them. I've tried "REV.RUN", which is Andy Key's "Reveal" game and that runs stably for hours. "STAR.MTX" starts but the star field slowly gets "suck stars"...

Re: Hello
Of course, the more radical solution is to desolder the current RAM and replace it with 64Kbit DRAM chips.
