Re: Case/Extension Cable?
I agree cables could introduce signal quality issues. Observe the buffering added either side of the MTX FDX ribbon cable because of this. Doing a new board layout is possible, but as Mark observes, because of component clearance concerns, a larger board would result, and thus costs. I might also ne...

Re: Differnce between SDX and FDX
Dave is right that there are probably quite a few system disk images. The 54K v 59K system difference is important. SM1 and FDX were typically shipped with 54K system disks, and I speculate this could be to leave some high memory to be able to load a hard disk driver into. Strangley, Icicle Works on...

Re: Adding files to SD card with win32
Given the title of this thread, I though it would be worth an update... Accessing content on SD Cards, or on images of partitions copied from SD Cards is now massively easier under Windows. Use the CP/M Callback Filesystem - see http://www.nyangau.org/cpmcbfs/cpmcbfs.htm. Basically you map a drive l...

Re: What other retro machines do you have?
CBS Colecovision (so I can work on a little non-Memotech project with Claus). I'm not really planning to grow my retro collection, although there are a couple of really rare things that if they appear I'll be bidding for. If my computer hardware collection grows, I hope it'll be because I've invente...

Re: Type 03 CPM System Disks
MFLOPPY comes with a few images, including some "System Masters", ie: boot system disks. I know there isn't a type 03 System master, but there are other bootable type 03 disks. And indeed if Linux is your friend, and you have cpmtools handy, you'll see you should be able to copy a blank, a...

Re: Differnce between SDX and FDX
When using MFLOPPY or .mfoppy files, you don't need to worry about whether the floppies are to be used with FDX or SDX. The disk formats themselves are independent of the hardware used to access them. So a type 03 floppy works fine in an FDX or SDX. Note that although on CP/M you can re-CONFIG drive...

Re: 48 line mode?
Check the pinout of the current chip, and the larger chip you want to use. Sometimes they are the same, except the bigger one has extra address lines that are mot connected, or some other function, in the smaller one. If so, you program the data repeatedly in the big chip. Then it doesn't matter wha...

Re: 48 line mode?
Before doing the video, I actually typed a control sequence to temporarily turn the screen white on blue.
Then when I hit enter, BASIC turns it back to its choice, which due to the patch, was white on black.

Re: CP/M - 80 Column Board Graphics
I have hopefully faithfully recreated this, pixel by pixel, in MEMU, REMEMOTECH and REMEMOrizer, from printouts such as that. In MEMU, the file monprom.c should be pretty self-explanatory. It is interesting to note that you don't need to draw all the block character graphics, as their bit pattern is...

Re: 48 line mode?
REMEMOTECH and REMEMOrizer have 80 column card hardware that supports a 48 line mode that the original 80 column card never supported. The CRT screen driver in the CP/M boot ROM supports <Esc>Y and <Esc>Z sequences to switch between 24 and 48 line modes. You can just type these in to the CP/M prompt...
