Re: Dave has moved!
Snow, what’s that? Only joking, although my town has not had any this winter so far, only ten miles away (further inland) it did snow and it settled. It was around 1cm deep in Bristol. And even more fell on the hills and further north such as Gloucestershire area. I have a choice of BT/Openreach or ...

Re: My second MTX
If you were around during the classic analogue CRT TV era, you may be like me and bought a Maplin Electronics SCART video amplifier, then you can have two tellies fed from one SCART signal…

Re: MemoFix 2022
I wonder if these were boards that Jim “liberated” from the factory? If so, perhaps they failed at the factory test stage and maybe never worked? If that is the case, then it’s not surprising that the “Repair Shop” had problems trying to fix them The first board I talked about, is from an MTX that ...

Re: MemoFix 2022
I’m safely home after another adventure in St leonards on Sea :D We identified a read line (/RD shorted to 0V/GND) control fault with on one MTX. But did not manage to locate where on the board the problem lay, other than it’s not any of the chips. The resistance between the /RD line and 0V/GND is a...

Re: only three weeks to go
The strike action by the RMT is cancelled for this Saturday (tomorrow). However, most train companies say that they don’t have time to arrange to run a normal Saturday service. So if anyone intends to try to travel by train, please do check beforehand which services are actually planned to run. Mark

Re: Magic tricks? Desolder IC's from MTX PCB?
For me it depends. If the old chip is toasted (dead) or a prime suspect, unless it’s a hard to get or expensive type, I cut the legs and desolder the individual legs. Otherwise it depends on how awkward it is. For large or awkward chips, I use hot air. I use an electric paint stripping ‘gun’, every ...
