Hi Lez

Looks real enough.. there was much discussion about over at VCF, although I'm pretty cynical about it myself as I have several of the real things right here, so don't really need it. Another option was mooted (http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/02/08/ ... -teardown/) but this is just a PC which won't be compatible with legacy hardware, so you'd be emulating. The SpecNext is based on an existing design and appears to use FPGA to implement the hardware.

There are some interesting features:
  • built in SD card with EXDOS (looks like a DivIDE in use)
  • built in Multiface 1/128 functions
  • HDMI and VGA outputs
  • Spectrum edge connector, supports legacy peripherals
  • PCB will fit inside a 48k spectrum case (is designed to be exactly the same size but you do have to open some cutouts for the additional ports)
  • and of course will use membrane connectors.
  • has a Sinclair joystick port
  • emulates many Spectrum type machines
So with an original case you can have a full on Spectrum with all bells and whistles and it will feel like the real thing.

Hmm, now I might be tempted by all that, but I expect the cost will be silly.

I've heard people say it has a Real Z80 CPU and an enhanced ZX ULA..?? Then others say it's all done on an FPGA Chip... Would be nice to see a real Z80 Chip inside !

If it uses an FPGA I can't really see it being any different from the previous clones like the VEGA ?

The VEGA and VEGA+ use a SoC (System on a chip), not a FPGA.
