Something like this. Like a cradle.

I had some spare time, so thought I’d do some modifications to my Memotech expansion casing. Basically, I merged the side plate that has the opening for the expansion port with the bottom profile. Now it can be screwed into the Memotech, then it’s a matter of adding the top, the back plate and the side plate.

That looks good!

When you say “merged”, does that mean that the part that you showed is printed in a single piece?

Yeah, it’s now a single piece. The idea is to use countersunk screws to attach it to the main case, so that they sit flush to the back plate.

I may add some structural supports between the bottom profile and side plate to make it more rigid. Also, I might design on a supporting cradle for the expansion cards, like the one in the hand-drawn picture.

That’s a good idea, I did think that the edge where the two parts join may be rather weak.

(The hand drawn sketch doesn’t seem to be displayed properly, at least, not on my iPad)

Well, it’s a pretty crappy doodle anyway.

I’ll apply the supports. If you want to try to print it I can send you the file.

I’ve changed from 123D Design to Fusion 360. Here’s a case that I designed for the Oric Erebus expansion:

Thanks a lot, when you finalise the design, I will try to print it. (My 3D printer is packed away at the moment though)

I finally got myself a 3D printer, so I was able to print the improved CFX casing.

The bottom and back plate:

With the top:

I still need to model and print some brackets for the card itself.

Wow, that looks amazing. Don't think my CFX looks quite like that but it would be great to have a case for it.
THIS is what Memotech is doing now.
