The MTX case profile drawings

Post by protek »

Is there drawings of the MTX case profile in some format? To my understanding the case is extruded aluminium profile. I was thinking of making a case for the CFX and it might be easiest to 3D print the profile to the desired length. I have access to a 3D printer, so I could give a go to making the case.

Hi,

that sounds like a great thing to do! I toyed with the idea myself, but don't have the 3D modelling skills to do it.

Unfortunately, there are no drawings for the Memotech case - they are long gone.

Good luck though!

Guess I'm going to unscrew the side plate off mine and put the thing on a flatbed scanner. Should be able to use the image to make a vector based lineart of it that I can import into Autodesk 123D Design. Once the shape is there, it's simply a matter of extruding it, like in the original case. Heck, you could probably make the MTX case from the profile.

Sounds good!

If you can get the side plate scanned and modelled, would you mind sharing please?

I am missing a couple of end plates and would like to get some made. Having a 3D model would make that much easier for me :)

I can also scan the end plate and model that.

I'll upload everything into Shapeways or some other 3D printing service.

I'm open for ideas to get the expansion case connected to the main case. My thought was to use right-sized metal rods where the screws would go.

For later versions of the SDX, Memotech attached a metal plate between the bottom of the disk drive and the base of the MTX case, this would require drilling the bottom of your MTX case though.

For earlier versions of the SDX, Memo tech just relied on the edge connector - there was no additional support.

You idea of long M3 screwed rods fitting all the way thorough a CFX case into the MTX edge connector mounting holes sounds like it would work well

Definitely an idea that I like

I think you can get 30mm long M3 machine screws. For longer lengths, some threaded M3 rod and a threaded joiner may work.

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:

Not as many MTXs as Dave!
