Hello to everyone!
Well, where do I start?
I discovered computers while at secondary school. At school they had BBC model B Micros. At home, me and my sister got a Sinclair ZX Spectrum for Christmas
The first time I saw a Memotech computer in real life, was when I got a MTX on loan from a friend when I was at secondary school. I liked it so much, I bought Ian Sinclair's MTX book (as my friend did not have a manual). It was different from the ZX Spectrum that I had. Which was different from the Acorn BBC B's at school. I loved it, but being at school it was too expensive for me .
Once I discovered eBay some years ago, plus discovering how much information there is on the internet (although not that much MTX info at the time), I decided it was time to add some MTX's to join my existing computers.
At the time I had Sinclair ZX Spectrum's, ZX81's, Acorn BBC B's, Acorn BBC Master's, Atari STFM's & STE's, one Atari Falcon, and one of each Psion Series 3, 3a, 3c and 5mx. Plus three PC's.
I had originally intended on getting only two or maybe three MTX's so that I had at least two working ones (unless they were found to have faults that could be fixed).
But I found problems:-
They were not very common, so were hard to buy...
The first one I bought did not have a PSU or manual, and at the time, there was no schematic that I could find on-line.
The next two were bought because they had either a PSU or a manual, but I now had three MTX's, only one of which worked!
So I kept my eyes open...
The last one was bought because it came with both a RS232 board and a disk drive.
And that's the story of how it started
Now I am knee deep in this MTX hobby

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb
Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year
Not as many MTXs as Dave!

RS232 AND FDX?
You jammy bugger.

Re: Hello everyone :-)
I think Mark's disk drive is an SDX.
I, on the other hand, DO have an FDX

Yes, the FDD is a 3½ SDX that plugs in the left hand side of a MTX. One day I WILL get around to taking some photo's

Well, I do have one or two photos of my FDX and SDX(s) anyway1024MAK wrote:Yes, the FDD is a 3½ SDX that plugs in the left hand side of a MTX. One day I WILL get around to taking some photo's

I have a great fondness for my FDX as I splashed out a huge (for me) wedge of cash when I bought in new in '84.
From a practical perspective though, the SDX is much easier to fit on the desk. The one that Mark has is great in that the disk drive is incorporated into the SDX controller case. The only downside is that it only supports one drive. The older style SDX with external floppies allows you to use two drive. Although I got my old style SDX without the original (5.25") disk drives, I have connected a couple of 3.5" drives to it and it is a nice solution too.
