Hi all, just acquired an MTX512 and looking forward to getting to grips with it. Originally a Sinclair guy back in the day, although I had a Memotech RAM pack for my ZX81, if that counts. These days I'm a Computer Science lecturer but as a sideline I curate a small-ish (50 or so machines) collection and run exhibitions and outreach events with the retro kit out of my uni. So it will be nice to add the MTX to my retro hordes - this was always one of my unicorns and very glad to have one now.
While I'm here, a quick question. My MTX is a bit scuffed on the case, particularly towards the bottom, where lots of the black coating has been scratched and scuffed. Ordinarily, I wouldn't even dream of painting a retro machine but as this is metal I am wondering whether that might be a possible approach.
How have others handled scuffs and scratches? I was talking to Dave (of MFX and CFX fame) and he suggested furniture polish rather than paint. Does anyone have any suggestions, or should I just put up with scuffs and marks as part of the retro charm?

Welcome!
The end plates on both of mine were pretty scuffed up, and I just left them. The scuffs were part of the history of the machine. A lesson if you like as to why you should not leave the end plate secured with just one screw, to swing free.
However ...
These days the dev MTX runs with the top of the case off for ease of access, with a USB kayboard attached via Dave's keyboard interface.
http://primrosebank.net/computers/mtx/p ... ps2kbd.htm Not a scuff in sight, though there's plenty of dust.
Much to Dave's disgust when the case is occasionally closed, I have custom 3D printed endplates for the MFX in gold and red PLA with matching bank ones for the other end.
The original endplates probably havne't been out of the box in 5 years, so much for wearing scars with pride!

Hello Loccy and welcome
I hope you find the forum useful.
I've never tried painting any of the Memotech cases. But have used a black permanent marker pen to soften scratch marks.

Not as many MTXs as Dave!
