In another thread on here ("When's the MTX going to get ZAXXON & Donkey Kong"), there is a description of a new tool that Martin has created that allows many ColecoVision games to run unmodified on MTX. The tool does not require any new hardware, provided that you have a disk drive or other removable media storage solution, including REMEMORizer, CFX and MFX.
Rather than being "hidden" in the Zaxxon thread, this tool is worthy of being highlighted to a wider audience - hence this thread!
More details on the CVPLAY tool can be found on my website at
http://primrosebank.net/computers/mtx/t ... loader.htm
This really is a great way for MTX owners to run many additional games - around 50 at this point. - Well done Martin!
You really should check it out !
Run ColecoVision Games on MTX - no new hardware needed
Re: Run ColecoVision Games on MTX - no new hardware needed
For those that are interested, this is the current list of working titles or mostly working titles, and the CVPLAY version they were tested with. Most will work with the current V0.21 release, some need the latest version. Though just be awkward Buck Rogers doesn't like v0.21 needs an early version. (Now you know why Dave keeps the old versions for download)
Needless to say each game has only had a brief test, with no instructions, so no guarantees!

Re: Run ColecoVision Games on MTX - no new hardware needed
Thank you Both (Martin and Dave) for the extreme effort you made for that.
I began testing CVPLAY V0.21 only days ago ... some results match yours; others defer.
will send Dave the Excel sheet once i finish all.
Dave:
- still didnt complete the upload of all .wav files i sent you.
- some Wanted software you mention on the site you already now have a copy, so please upload them also.
keep up the effort Guys ...

Re: Run ColecoVision Games on MTX - no new hardware needed
I've been having a play with this today. Pretty impressive when it works.
Zaxxon works well, until it's Game Over. Then the game becomes almost unresponsive but if you're lucky and mash keys enough you can play again. If you leave it alone eventually the screen goes blank (the monitor connected via VGA turns off its backlight suggesting that there's no sync) and the machine is hung. Goodness knows how you can debug that!
I guess that a modified version of MEMU could be used which stops the emulator if access to a ColecoVision hardware port is used and pinpoints the address in the code to patch.

Are you using the latest version of the player ?stephen_usher wrote: ↑12 Aug 2025 20:58

Have you tried the Zaxxon restart key? <EOL> on the numeric keypad?
See the controller key mapping on the Loader page. You may need to read the game instructions for other games (link provided on the Loader page) to see how the different games use the emulated controller keys

Yes, I've used keypad 7. It works most of the time, but if you leave the game for too long at "Game Over" it crashes.
And it's the latest (0.21) version of cvplay. (p.s. I still need the patched version of Frogger to run with this on my machine.)

Another "bug" report: Star Wars stops responding after "Game Over". I don't know if this is a lock up or it's not reading the inputs.
