Sure. They will be thrilled Tony!

Edit: all done.

Many thanks.

Still can't login, sadly. I know for certain that I have a lot of Einstein Silicon Disc PCBs.

Ok, Tony, those guys over at the Einstein forums are super desperate for new kit and new software, they'll love the silicon disc hardware.

I sent the administrators a PM to remind them. I know one of the guys through a different forum, I'll try to get a message to him through there.

Does your Memotech "smell funny"?

No sniggering at the back!

My Memotech(s) emit a noticeable and distinctive smell, which I have always put down to "old electronics", but could it be something else. The smell changes and gets a bit stronger after they have been on for a while.

I quite like it, the kids not so much. Does your Memotech smell a bit?

In Dave's case, he may be immune to it. Hell, he may well have destroyed his nostrils if he can afford the electricity to switch on 250 Memotech's and a Video Wall on all at the same time!

But seriously, when my MTXs have been on for a while, the VDPs get pretty warm, I do get a slight odour, but it;s not really pungent and could be from the VDP

This is generic information rather than being Memotech specific.

Compared to a Rifa capacitor self destructing, no.

The parts that get hot will generate a small amount of smell, as they cause compounds in the dust that has settled to become airborne.

But other than that, unless you have recently used some kind of cleaner, there should not be much of a smell unless you stick your noise very close to the board.

This assumes it's stored / been stored in a warm dry place. If it's been stored in less favourable conditions, it my smell musky due to organics having grown on parts of it...

Mind, I may be immune to normal electronic smells, due to having been working with electronics since the 1980s

Oh, oils and protective coatings may still continue to smell if an item has not been used much.

Yeah, hard to tell, all three Memotechs have a similar smell that eminates from the board. Not a bad smell per se, but distinctive.
