Replacement Serial Ports

How easy would it be to make a serial port for the MTX? Something compatible with the original one?
Pretty easy. You can use the schematics on the service manual, on the part describing the IFACE/RS232 board.
The IFACE board uses a Z80DART controller and three drives. Using a PAL for decoding you can get it all in only four chips. The code for the PAL is also listed on the service manual.
