Only a week until the Retro-Comptuer Festival. Eek!

Post by stephen_usher »

I'm getting the girls ready for the public to play on them next weekend in Cambridge. It's a pity I couldn't find someone to lend an FDX to me for the display but oh well. Oh, and the TV doesn't want to display the RGB output from the VDP2RGB board fitted to the 500, so it will just have to be composite video.

I've still got to do all the signage for the MTX@40 display. That's the trickiest part.

Signage done. Hopefully it doesn't look too cluttered.

I used the "Eurostile" font to match the case. Well, technically the case uses Microgramma font but this is capitals only and the direct forerunner of Eurostile. Unfortunately the shape of the zero is more curved in the later font. Oh well.

Having investigated the VDP2HDMI cable, I think that I must have wired it incorrectly as it doesn't work with any SCART cable I have but does with the RGB2HDMI. Maybe I think it's the wrong type of adapter? Anyway, no real time to investigate.

That does look good, though like Dave, I may be a little based.

I tried an inexpensive AV2HDMI upscaler, and while yes it does mean I can use the HDMI input on the TV. However, the imige isn't that great. All the time I have a TV with scart, I'll stick with the passive AV to scart adapter that came with the Nintendo Wii.

I did get the RGB2HDMI working but the output on that telly was almost indistinguishable from the composite video. It's so much more hassle, so I'll not bother.

(The VDP2RGB board solders to the underside of the PCB and connects to the VDP pins directly. Supposedly gives as good a picture as the VDP can produce.)

Well, the MFX is the ultimate upgrade... unless you want serial ports.
