HM6116 2Kx8bit SRAMs on ebay .. ideal for SPECULATOR ?

Post by lezanderson »

Spotted some SPECULATOR SRAMs on ebay.. at a respectable price £1.59 for 5pcs Ideal for anyone who is reverse engineering a SPECULATOR ZX Spectrum Emulator ? As these are getting quite rare it's unusual to see them for this sort of price.

So I ordered some earlier this week. Then today I received this message:-

We would like to inform you that, it has come to our attention the item you have ordered was being dispatched but unfortunately, it was damaged in the process. We could not send you the damaged item; therefore, we have been contacting the suppliers to get the items in as soon as possible in order to meet your need as we only had one left. Unfortunately, there is not an available date from the supplier as to when we will get items. To resolve this matter, we would like to refund you the total amount.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused, as it was sudden for us and this matter does arise in a business environment from time to time. We hope this is understandable. I have no choice but to cancel this order and refund you. Please be informed that e-bay will message you to confirm the cancelation; please do remember to confirm it in order the refund to go through.

Kindest Regards

Please kindly do not leave negative feedback, we aim to work with you to sort out any issues that you may have.
And eBay and PayPal messages about a refund.

I wonder if the other buyer got theirs (I was the second buyer). At the time my order was confirmed, eBay showed the seller having I think over 50 available. So the "story" above sounds like a stock letter, either that or the chips were not they type that the seller thought they were.

Looked too good to be true...! Once upon a time there were loads of Very Very cheap ICs on ebay, when people where having a clear-out and simply just wanted them to go to a good home ! But sadly those days have gone and now everybody is greedy !

Still plentiful on ebay as pulls !

Though Mouser/Digikey etc stuff is obviously NEW or NOS you do pay a large premium !

The last batch I brought were from Maplin

But it looks like it's the end of line for them. The right angle ones Dave found for the Magrom boards were from E-bay I think.

So it should be able to reverse engineer and make a NEW Speculator as all the components are still available ?

PCB £10 (Guess)
PAL14L4-2CN £1.50 each (2pcs)
SN74LS74 Flip Flop £0.25 each (5pcs=£1.25)
DN74LS123N Dual Retriggerable Monostable Multivibrator £1.0 each
HM6116 2Kx8bit SRAM £0.75 each
Resistors/Caps/IC sockets etc £1.5

Should be able to do it for £16.50 each ??

Obviously the Hard part is designing the PCB !
