RS232?

Post by JonB »

Hi mateys

I have MTX512 / ReMemorizer and MagROM (Not really used it yet, but will, honest, Dave!). I would like to add one or more serial ports to the machine for Kermit file transfer under CP/M. Anyone done this, or must I recreate the Memotech addon?

Cheers

Given that the schematics and GAL code are freely available, recreating the original is probably the simplest method.

I would be tempted to use a Z80 SIO/0 and one or more level shifters from the MAX232 family rather than replicate the original design the old Z80 DART and the MC1488/1489.

For the MTX plus I put the SIO/0 and a RS232 to USB adaptor on the I/O baord. As to how well that works it's anyone's guess as I've not actually got any software that uses the serial port!

Are you actually going to need or use RS232 +12V / -12V levels, or are you using a TTL logic level RS232 to USB device?

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:

Not as many MTXs as Dave!
