Hi.

Just want to remind, take care when you remove socked chips from the MTX mainboard, those chips may not have been out for many years, and kind of stuck there. Today I ran into a problem, and I wanted to swap the VDP, suddenly I discovered on of the pin was broken, it was left in the Socket.

When the chip is removed from the socket it do help to spay with some contact cleaner.

I saved the VDP by soldering a new PIN to it......
VDP out of the socket, the chip can be very hard to get out, take care!!!

Seeing all that crud on the pins, I'm surprised it came out at all. Well done!!

Wow. I’ve pulled quite a few socketed chips over the years and never broken a pin so it never even crossed my mind it was a risk! Thanks for the warning.

Unfortunately the metal used for the pins on some chips corrodes and weakens over time. Obviously this only becomes a problem if the unit is stored in less favourable conditions.
