Not sure I'm a fan of so many channels, but I really dislike Facebook (not the content that is posted in our group, just Facebook's interface, reliability and overall agenda), so maybe Discord will replace that over time.

Yeah, like Facebook the posts are ephemeral, but at least there are different themed "channels" like in IRC, so it's more general chit-chat than reference material, which is what the forum is ideal for.

I've been looking to see if I can add a link to the forum but I've not found one yet.
