Hello from Finland

Post by godzilla43 »

Hi, new MTX owner. I just found a pretty much NOS MTX 512 and FDX :) will test it in this weekend :)
I did check before I bought it the RMC - THe Cave youtube video and MTX seems a cool machine. The games are pretty good and sound is not bad. Also with FDX you can use CP/M which is nice. I always wanted to test the Digital Researches software after watching Computer Chronicles.

Amazing to find both the FDX and main system in such amazing condition. Lucky guy!

Is the keyboard a Finnish layout?

Edit: extreme close up, it looks like it.

A piece of trivia . . . . .

Between October ‘84 and September ‘85, 223 disk systems (probably all FDX) were shipped to Finland

(See the bottom of this page http://www.primrosebank.net/computers/m ... motech.htm )

That is probably right. Still 223 disk system seems a really low number but I don't think there were much more MTX computers in Finland also. I had never heard of MTX but also it was before my time. I think MSX especially Spectravideo was popular in Finland back then and obviously C64.

Really interesting- love the handwritten "cottage industries" note. Less than 100 in my neck of the woods. No chance of finding them in Denmark, I suspect. Danes seem to have fallen for the same "its retro so must be gold" BS where you regularly see discoloured and dirty C64s with keys missing on sale for 1000DKK (about 110 quid).

I had some time to test the system. MTX works! Next week I will try to test the FDX system. I hooked MTX via RF cable. There is also a monitor port so if I put a coaxcial rca adapter there and then I can use a RCA cable?

Here is all my cassettes. I also have couple floppy disk with Supercalc, Memotext new word fdx and probably CP/M system.

just a quick note re the FDX. If it has not been powered up in a while don't be surprised if you get a fizz and a pop then a lot of nasty smells and the caps on the PSU fry. I have had to replace them all of the SDX/FDX PSU's I have.
