Memofest 2024?

Post by Bill B »

Since nobody else has raised the topic I will.

I could possibly host the event one day in November. However I don't have anything new to show.

Other possibilities:
  • Is there a larger event where we could agree to meet up?
  • A purely online event. I think there would need to be a definite topic to the meeting to make it work.
  • Any other volenteers?
Thoughts?

I'm going to the Acorn enthusiasts ABUG South meetup. I can't make the first day, but will be there on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November 2024.

The Saturday is likely to be very busy with Acorn users. But Sunday afternoon will be less busy due to many not attending on the Sunday or leaving just before or just after lunchtime. Hence if more than two MTXers want to attend, Sunday would be the better choice.

This group is normally fine with other computers from other manufacturers. Especially if they are interesting. But I would have to check with the organiser.

The venue is a pub (that has accommodation where you can stay).
It's The Ely, London Road, Blackwater, CAMBERLEY, Hampshire, GU17 9LJ. There are other hotels in the area but are beyond reasonable walking distance. The nearest railway station is also beyond reasonable walking distance. However, it may be possible to give lifts.

There is a £15 charge for each attendee. This covers the cost of the meeting room together with as much tea, coffee, fizzy pop and unhealthy snacks as you can consume. This is the same cost be it for one day or three days and is paid in advance.

There are a couple of rules:
  • no hot food is to be consumed at the venue other than that which is purchased from the bar/restaurant (the food is good)
  • no alcoholic drinks are to be consumed at the venue other than that which is purchased from the bar/restaurant
The organiser is not yet taking bookings but will put a topic up on Stardot forum very soon. You don't have to be a member of Stardot forums to attend. But you do have to let the organiser know, which days you want to attend, as there is a limited number of places per day. And places sometimes fill up quickly.

There are more details in the topic for the event that was held earlier this year link.

Would this be of interest?

And I'm open to an online video conference.

Given my usual lack of transport, I'm up for an online meet. Whether that's part of a small get together like last year, or just online, that's up to everyone else :)

The only "finished" project this year is the RTC module on the demonstration MFX. It's not exactly earth shattering, but possibly worth a 10 minute demo.

So, is there anyone interested in coming round to my place one day in November for tea, cake and chatting about Memotechs?

It might be worthwhile. It does not seem to be getting much attention here.

I'm exhibiting at the Retro Computer Festival that weekend so I'd not be able to turn up.
